![]() Meanwhile, there is an interesting opportunity concerning Davy Jones' heart - whoever kills Jones has to take on his job, cursed to ferry the dead for eternity. She was locked away by a conspiracy of Jones and the first Pirate Court, and the heroes figure out how to let her loose. ![]() In order to defeat Davy Jones, the Pirates need to bring another supernatural creature into play: Calypso, the Goddess of the sea and the woman who made Davy Jones into the cursed monster that he is. The heroes enlist a witch to help them steal Jack back from the dead. The oppressed free peoples of the Carribean are calling for the Pirates to band together and fight back, but with Jack dead there can be no Brethren Court. Barbossa, like Jack, seems keen on immortality.Īt the end of the last movie, Captain Jack Sparrow had been killed by the Kracken and the British had seized the Heart of Davy Jones.Īs "At World's End" begins, we find things in the Caribbean are grim - the British are slaughtering pirates and anyone who would oppose their rule, with the unwilling help of Davy Jones. Near the movie's end Barbossa says something about "There's more than one way to live forever, I give you the fountain of youth" before presenting the vandalized map. When confronted with the full might of the Royal Navy however, the pirates realize they're outmatched and figure it's worth the gamble of releasing Calypso otherwise they're sure to be destroyed by the Royal Navy. The other pirates may suspect this is true, and Jack for one would rather fight the Royal Navy one on one than risk releasing Calypso, and thus making the seas more dangerous in the future. I think his claims that freeing Calypso would give the pirates a powerful ally are just a cover for his true motives. Despite her wrath after being freed, she seems to keep her promise in so far as not killing Barbossa outright. As such Barbossa doesn't really have a choice, he must free Calypso or face the consequences. In all likelihood he'd probably like to tell Calypso to go fuck herself and leave her trapped in human form, however the dialog states she brought him back from the dead and implies she could send him back again if he fails to free her. All the characters in the movie are almost always self serving and Barbossa is certainly no exception. Barbossa definitely would prefer to be among the living. ![]() At World's End got a bit ridiculous with all the backstabbing and side plots going on. His quest for immortality presumably drives him to the fountain of youth. ![]() He has no interest in doing the proper duties of the captain and concedes that he will hardly ever be able to set foot on land and will have a 'fish for a face' but that might be worth it for him. Jack is obsessed with sailing the seas forever.
